In addition to the hundreds of responses to the survey, dozens of citizens wrote their own comments.  I have included some of the comments below:

"I recently went to register my car and the clerk told me registrations will increase in September and that vanity plates will double.  Also, in other states a person only has to pay excise tax once, in Maine it's every year, and you wonder why young people want to leave.  And think about taxing canoes and kayaks, please enough already!"

"Some form of revenue desperately needs to be developed for Dirigo.  Perhaps MaineCare deductibles (co-pays) can be applied to Dirigo."

"Cut spending. Cut State government (size of legislature).  Stop being so against business."
 
"Tourism could use more help from the State and this would increase income from the tax revenue, plus more jobs etc."

"Retirees should get a break from paying school taxes"

"No more tax on anything!"

"Please work to increase the percentage of insurance paid to retired teachers.  Thank you!"
